Oil on cotton 76x61cm. 2007

A complete, solid column above contrasts with the stump of a destroyed one in the lower half. The stump is reminiscent of the remains that proliferate in the ancient site of Carthage. It also has echoes of the protruding stumps of the ancient forest at 'The Gearagh' near Macroom; in any case, the effect is of a ruin contrasting with a whole.
